CALIB Designs was founded in 2009 because we found there was a need for a simpler and safer Hard and Soft Iron calibration process for the Teledyne RD Instruments Long Ranger. And we have also applied this technology to accommodate calibration of the Teledyne RD Instruments Workhorse Sentinel.

We have designed and built our calibration stands with leveling technology and turntables that assure a level and stable base for accurate and level rotation. Relatively light and portable, the LR-1 and the WH-1 are easy to ship to your worksite allowing for best scenario hard and soft iron compass calibration, which is highly recommended by the manufacturer after replacing the internal batteries.

The LR-1 and the WH-1 minimize the physical handling of the Long Ranger and the Workhorse Sentinel respectively. The ease of use and consistency of rotation can save time in the calibration process and assure more consistent and quality calibration results.

With the aid of our optional loading cart, the heavy and high center of gravity Long Rangers are easy to maneuver into position. This allows for a safer and more controlled loading process of the heavy instrument into the calibration stand.

And our optional non-magnetic tripod enables you to calibrate your Workhorse Sentinels at waist level, eliminating the need to bend over to calibrate your instruments on the ground.

A Clear Benefit of Calib Designs Calibration Stands:

Over the course of an ADCP deployment, the battery packs will change their magnetic alignment as the voltage drops over time. The effect of this change is an increase in the overall error evident when a post calibration check is performed and compared to the pre-calibration done prior to deployment. The best way to minimize the impact this change in magnetic alignment will have on the data set, is to improve on the calibration performed when new batteries are installed.

Stability of the instrument during the calibration process, as well as a non-magnetic calibration site, is paramount to getting the lowest overall error value. Starting with the lowest overall error at the beginning of a deployment will minimize the impact of the magnetic change throughout the deployment. The resulting data sets collected will therefore be more accurate.

Our calibration stands offer the best way to maintain the stability of the ADCP throughout the calibration process. Calib Designs goal was to come up with designs that combined vertical stability with a smooth horizontal rotation. The LR-1 and WH-1 Calibration Stands are proven results of this achieved goal.
